Can CBD Oil Stop Allergy?

 CBD vs Allergy

One receives an allergic reaction when an otherwise innocuous substance (allergens) produces a chemical reaction of creating histamines in the body.

The most common type of allergy medication is an antihistamine which has many side effects. CBD may help resist and lessen the symptoms of seasonal allergies.

Both anecdotal evidence and research studies suggest CBD oil has numerous benefits for things like depression, arthritis and epilepsy. Trials seem to indicate that CBD has a positive impact on pain management, inflammation and neurotransmitters in the brain.

But what about things like allergies? Using CBD oil to fight allergy shows promise, too, and here’s why.

Allergies and the Body

In allergic reactions, otherwise innocuous substances produce a chemical reaction in the body. These substances are called allergens and can include pollen, mold, food, pet dander, latex and myriad other items. Allergens produce a protein, which acts as a catalyst for cells to produce chemicals, such as histamine. These chemicals cause the symptoms that make up allergic reactions and they can range from mild to severe. The most severe type of allergic reaction is anaphylaxis, which is life threatening.

Traditional Allergy Medications

The most common type of allergy medication is an antihistamine. Traditional allergy medications can be taken orally or inhaled, and they have many side effects. Some of the side effects experienced with antihistamines can include sleepiness, fatigue, nausea, brain fog and blurred vision among other things. Some people aren’t comfortable driving a vehicle while they’re on antihistamines.

CBD and the Immune System

CBD oil, which is a cannabinoid, may help resist and lessen the symptoms of seasonal allergies in the following ways:

  • It is believed that CBD opens up the airways and relieves pressure in the nasal cavities.
  • Studies on CBD oil and inflammation suggest that it is effective at treating inflammation, which is common in allergies.
  • CBD may suppress the immune system response to allergens without the same side effects of antihistamines.

CBD has shown to be effective for a wide range of symptoms and illnesses. More research must be done, but the benefits of CBD are becoming clearer. In addition to the previously studied illnesses, seasonal allergies seem to be, yet another area CBD can positively impact. If traditional allergy medication produces too many side effects for you, give CBD a try.
