Since the 2018 farm bill, the popularity of CBD products has increased rapidly in the U.S. Many people are taking it to help deal with anxiety, stress, sleeplessness and nausea. The benefits of CBD have quickly given rise to the question of whether CBD and pregnancy mix.

Should You Use CBD While Pregnant?

The short answer to this is no, you probably should not.

Currently, there is little research on how CBD affects pregnant women or developing babies. Nonetheless, experts including the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists and the FDA say to avoid it.

Some studies have shown that marijuana can lead to babies with lower birth weights and other issues. It may also increase the risk of stillbirth. While there is little if any research on how CBD affects fetus development, the expert consensus is that it isn’t worth the risk.

What if you have tried CBD while pregnant?

Don’t panic if you have tried some CBD while pregnant or breastfeeding. The current science does suggest that cannabis and its derivative products may cause harm; however, this research was primarily focused on regular use. Nonetheless, it is best to be careful.
