How Does Cannabis or Hemp Become CBD Oil?

 Cannabis to Oil img

CBD oil is removed from the cannabis or hemp plant through extraction. The most common way to do this is to use CO2, which does not leave any residual solvents behind, has minimal regulation requirements, and has easy automation. Other extraction methods include hydrocarbon and ethanol. CBD oil with THC must be extracted from the cannabis plant while CBD oil without THC is generally extracted from the hemp plant.

Have you ever wondered how CBD oil is produced?

Or the difference between CBD oil with THC content versus without it?

Here is a quick tutorial on the CBD extraction process.

CBD Extraction Process Methods

CBD oil is removed from either the cannabis or hemp plant through a process called extraction. CBD oil extraction separates the oil from the plant material. There are several ways to achieve the extraction process, but the use of CO2 is one of the most common ways. This method of extraction doesn’t leave any residual solvents behind, the regulation requirements are minimal, and automation is easy. The equipment is expensive, but the benefits tend to offset the expense and a return on the investment is a positive one.

Other extraction methods include hydrocarbon and ethanol. Each of these methods has its own pros and cons. For instance, hydrocarbon is fast and relatively inexpensive, but it leaves solvents and is very difficult to automate. Ethanol is also inexpensive and fast, but it requires secondary processing and is highly flammable.

There is no real framework for the process or the process itself as determined and regulated by the FDA. The FDA sets science-based policy and it takes time for them to take a stated position so that they can perform research.

CBD Oil With and Without THC

CBD oil with THC content must be extracted from the cannabis plant whereas CBD oil without THC content is generally extracted from the hemp plant. Hemp has minimal to no THC in it so extracting CBD oil from the plant is the easiest way to achieve non-THC based oil.
