Can CBD Oil Be Addictive?

 Addiction

There is currently no evidence that CBD contains the addictive properties that THC contains.

It is not psychoactive and thus not inherently addictive. You should always consult your doctor before using CBD oil.

As the use of CBD oil grows in the United States, so does the number of questions regarding this newly popular supplement. For instance, while research indicates that marijuana and its psychoactive agent THC can have addictive properties, is CBD addictive?

Is CBD Addictive?

The simple answer is there is not currently any evidence that CBD contains the addictive properties that THC contains, and while these two cannabinoids are both well represented in cannabis, CBD does not contain any THC, either.

Digging a little deeper into the science behind cannabis, THC produces a high by interacting with two neurotransmitters called CB1 and CB2. CBD does not interact with these receptors in the same way, meaning CBD is not psychoactive and is not inherently addictive.

What Precautions Should You Take With CBD?

As with any drug or supplement, you should always consult with your doctor before use. They can start you off at an effective dosage, as well as discuss any symptoms or issues you may wish to reduce. Your doctor may be able to find you a more effective treatment than CBD, as well as make you aware of any potential interactions between CBD and your prescribed medication.
