How To Calculate the Right Dose of CBD Oil for Dogs

It’s important to determine the right dosage of CBD oil to give your furry best friend for treatment. Multiple factors will influence the amount of CBD that will prove effective without causing negative side effects. After consulting with a veterinarian, it’s recommended to start small and know the amount of CBD contained in a particular dosage.

Starting Small

There are a variety of factors that go into calculating the right dosage for your pet. A good rule of thumb is to start small and work your way up. Once you notice your canine friend experience negative side effects, you’ll need to stop increasing and return to the last dose that didn’t cause any issues. This process is called drug titration.

Most veterinarians will tell you that the dosage depends on the size of a dog. They’ll likely recommend around 0.2mg of CBD oil per pound as a safe dosage when giving CBD oil for general well-being.

Your vet will also consider other factors when determining the right dosage. For instance, they’ll look at the severity of the ailment and your dog’s metabolism.

Doing the Math

Knowing how many milligrams of CBD oil is in each milliliter of oil is another essential factor in determining the right dose. Here’s a quick formula that can help you calculate how much CBD is in your oil:

•                 75mg formula contains 2.5mg of CBD per milliliter (ml) of oil

•                 150mg formula contains 5mg of CBD per ml of oil

•                 300mg formula contains 10mg of CBD per ml of oil

•                 600mg formula contains 20mg of CBD per ml of oil

So, if you have a 25-pound dog, you’ll likely administer 5mg of CBD (0.2mg multiplied by 25). If your CBD oil is a 75mg formula, you’ll give your pet 2 milliliters of oil.

Consult Your Veterinarian

Before giving your dog CBD oil, you should discuss any underlying issues with your veterinarian. They can help diagnose the issue and discuss all potential treatment options. If they recommend CBD oil, they can help you choose the right dosage and product, too.
