Marijuana, more specifically THC, has been known to cause memory loss. Yet, another component of marijuana, CBD, has been found to mitigate against the loss of memories.
For example, CBD has demonstrated its ability to reduce cellular decline in the brain thus stymying some of the symptoms of Alzheimer’s.
Most people’s memory fades as they grow older. However, that doesn’t mean the decline of someone’s memory isn’t a cause for concern. It may be a symptom of a larger cognitive issue, such as Alzheimer’s or other degenerative memory disorders. Even if the worsening memory isn’t indicative of something larger, it may impact someone’s lifestyle and change how they operate on a day-to-day basis. Luckily, there is some research out there that shows using CBD for degenerative memory disorders shows some promise as a treatment.
There is good science behind the claim that marijuana causes memory loss. THC, the psychoactive component of marijuana, is one of the mean reasons that forgetfulness is associated with marijuana use. Yet, it’s another component of marijuana, the non-psychoactive CBD, that may help mitigate against the loss of memories.
In fact, the science indicates that CBD reduces brain damage caused by trauma. When CBD interacts with the body’s endocannabinoid system, it helps enable the brain’s natural defense system. For brain injuries that result in neuroinflammation, there is evidence that CBD helps reduce inflammation throughout the body, potentially helping to reduce memory loss.
There’s perhaps no more well-known of a degenerative memory disorder than Alzheimer’s. Some studies have demonstrated that CBD aids in reducing oxygen buildup in the brain, reducing cellular decline. CBD can also help in stymying some of the symptoms of Alzheimer’s. For instance, it is common to use CBD oil for mood swings or agitation and aggression. As these symptoms are part of what makes it so difficult to take care of those suffering from these memory disorders, CBD may help improve the quality of care by reducing symptoms. If you’re concerned about potential memory loss, whether it’s due to a degenerative disorder, trauma, or even growing older, make sure to discuss options with your doctor. They can work with you to find your best options, including CBD oil.
