Can I Produce CBD Oil at Home?

 cbd oil at home

A homemade extraction process for CBD can be made at home.

The ingredients required are 1 ounce of hemp flower and 16 ounces of food-grade oil.

With a few supplies and a straightforward extraction process, CBD oil made at home is definitely possible.

One of the best ways to ensure that your CBD oil only contains the ingredients you want it to is to make it yourself. With some basic ingredients and supplies, you’ll be able to set up a homemade extraction process without needing access to industrial equipment or CO2 and ethanol.

Ingredients and Supplies

We’re going to focus on the oil method of making CBD oil at home. To do so, we’ll need some basic ingredients:

  • 1 ounce of hemp flower
  • 16 ounces of oil (coconut or olive oil are recommended, but other food-grade oils will work, too)

You’ll also need some standard equipment that you probably have lying around your home:

  • Baking sheet
  • Cheesecloth (a coffee filter works, too)
  • Double boiler or crockpot
  • Glass jar with a sealing lid
  • Herb grinder

Recipe

Once your ingredients and equipment are ready, the extraction process is straightforward.

  1. Preheat your oven to 225 degrees Fahrenheit
  2. Finely grind your hemp using your herb grinder. If you don’t own an herb grinder, a knife or food processor are alternatives.
  3. Decarboxylate the ground hemp, which helps activate the CBD, by spreading the hemp on the baking sheet and placing it in the preheated oven until the hemp looks slightly toasted, about an hour.
  4. Mix the decarboxylated hemp with the oil. If you’re using a double boiler, make sure the water is simmering. If you’re using a slow cooker, set it its lowest heat setting. Cook the mixture until it has turned brownish-green, usually around two to three hours. Check on the mixture every 30 minutes or so to stir.
  5. Strain the mixture by pouring it through a cheesecloth into the glass jar. Squeeze out as much of the oil as possible. Store the jar in a cool, dark, and dry space. Throw out the ground hemp flower.

This easy process should help stymie any concerns about how safe it is to make CBD oil at home and maybe even give the home cook a slight edge in the home-made vs. professional-made CBD oil debate.
